A STRONG WIND WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR THE COASTAL AREAS OF YASAWA AND MAMANUCA GROUPS, NADI-LAUTOKA-BA-TAVUA-RAKIRAKI AREAS, BUA-LEKUTU-DREKETI-SEAQAQA-LABASA-NAMUKA-UDU POINT, RABI, TAVEUNI AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS, LAU AND LOMAIVITI GROUPS.

Situation: An active trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain remains slow moving over the Fiji group. Meanwhile, a shallow low pressure system lies embedded along the trough just to the west of Viti Levu and is directing moist north to northwest wind flow over most parts of the group, bringing with it heavy rain squally thunderstorms and strong winds until the week-end.

Forecast to midnight tonight for the Fiji group:
Occasional to periods of rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms over Nadi-Lautoka-Ba-Tavua-Rakiraki-Korovou, interior of Ba and Ra, Naitasiri-Tailevu North, Bua-Lekutu-Dreketi-Seaqaqa-Labasa-Namuka-Udu point, Rabi, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Yasawa, Lau and Lomaiviti group. Fresh to
strong north to northwest winds with speeds of 35 to 45km/hr and gusts to 60km/hr. Rough seas.
Elsewhere, cloudy periods with some showers, with afternoon thunderstorms and heavy falls. Moderate to fresh northwest winds.

Persistent localised heavy falls will lead to flash flooding of low lying areas, flood prone areas as well as rivers and streams.
