Busy year ahead for weightlifting Fiji

Weightlifting Fiji coach Henry Elder says that after a refreshing two-week break, the longest they’ve had in quite a while, it’s now back to business as they prepare for another busy year with a mapped-out calendar.

Elder confirms they have two more events before wrapping up the year: the OWF Online Club Tournament, in which youth and junior athletes will participate, and the IWF World Championships, where Taniela Rainibogi will compete next month in Bahrain.

“This is all part of preparations for next year, so as we have always done, we won’t take too much of a break during Christmas, maybe just two or three days and new year’s also, and they will then roll through that period there right until January and February, where we start in our preparations for the World Youth Championships, World Junior Championships, and there’s the Under 23 Championships also, which is in Melbourne.”

Elder adds that this is all in addition to the Oceania Championships and Pacific Mini Games, which are also happening next year.

Weightlifting Fiji is currently preparing the youth and junior lifters for this month’s competition.

The lifters will submit their video entries, which will be assessed using the Sinclair method—a statistical calculation used in Olympic weightlifting to compare athletes across different weight classes.

This competition will feature under-20 and under-17 lifters from the Oceania region.
