Fiji Schoolboys Under-18 coach Peniona Ranitu believes that establishing a structured program is essential to retain players and develop their talents locally.
This comes after their impressive 34-25 victory against the Australian Schoolboys in the second Test of their series on Tuesday, marking a back-to-back win.
Ranitu explained that the primary goal of this program is to prevent players from being poached by overseas clubs.
“I’m just hoping we get a program so that these boys won’t be lured away when they are approached by overseas clubs.”
However, he acknowledged that if any player secures an overseas contract that benefits them, they won’t stand in their way.
Ranitu also expressed hope that the program will be in place soon, allowing the players to transition smoothly into the Under 20s and eventually the Fiji Warriors team.
