The Jennings family is making waves in both football and rugby league for Fiji.
While Fiji Bula Boys defender Leroy Jennings made his football debut last weekend for the national team, his cousin Michael Jennings may soon follow suit, but on the rugby league field.
Michael Jennings, a seasoned Sydney Roosters center, has been named in the Fiji Bati squad for the Pacific Bowl Championship.
The experienced player is set to bring nearly a decade of professional rugby league expertise to the national side.
Having represented both Tonga and Australia on the international stage, Jennings sees joining the Fiji Bati as a meaningful way to reconnect with his Fijian roots.
“We’re in Fiji again and he debuted for Fiji the other week in soccer, and hopefully I get the opportunity to debut in rugby league. It’s a good time for our family.”
With his potential debut on the horizon, Jennings says he is happy to see another family member proudly representing Fiji in a different sport.
The Vodafone Fiji Bati squad will face the PNG Kumuls at 8pm on Saturday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
