The Fiji Men’s football team secured the runner-up spot in the MSG Prime Minister’s Cup after a 3-1 victory over hosts Solomon Islands this evening at the National Stadium in Honiara.
They finish behind champions Papua New Guinea who beat Vanuatu 2-1 earlier today.
The Bula Boys dominated the first half with two goals from Gabrieli Matanisiga and Sairusi Nalaubu, taking a 2-0 lead into the break.
In the second half, Thomas Dunn extended Fiji’s lead with a goal in the 56th minute.
Solomon Islands’ Atkin Kaua pulled one back for the hosts, but it was too late to mount a comeback as Fiji held on to claim a well-earned victory and second place in the tournament.
