Fiji elected as vice chair of Labour Rights Advisory board

Fiji has been elected as Vice Chair of the Labour Rights Advisory Board under the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework Agreement relating to Supply Chain Resilience.

Permanent Secretary for Employment Maritino Nemani, will serve as Vice Chair of the board, supporting the Chair from the United States.

This development was confirmed during the inaugural virtual meeting of the Labour Rights Advisory Board established under the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework Supply Chain Agreement on 30 July 2024.

Nemani says that Fiji is honoured to be elected as Vice Chair of the Labour Rights Advisory as this role highlights the nation’s commitment to strengthening labour rights and ensuring fair and equitable working conditions for all workers across the region.

The PS believes that robust labour standards are essential for building resilient and sustainable supply chains through collaborating with our IPEF partners to drive meaningful progress in this area.

The IPEF Supply Chain Agreement was designed to enhance the resilience and competitiveness of critical supply chains, ensuring better preparedness and response to disruptions that threaten economic prosperity.

The National Secretary of the Fiji Trade Union Congress, Felix Anthony, will also serve on the Board as the labour representative, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation, Jonetani Tonawai, will serve as the employer representative.
