The Suva Magistrates Court has yet again adjourned the sentencing for former Post Fiji Chief Executive Anirudha Bansod.

On Monday, the court had issued a bench warrant for Bansod when he did not appear for his case, but it was later cancelled when he appeared with his lawyer in court.

Magistrate Yogesh Prasad has sought clarification on a few issues on the matter, and has instructed the two parties to focus on conflict of interest as the central issue.

Defense counsel, Devanesh Sharma argued that a fair tender was bid, and there is no actual but rather perceived conflict of interest on the matter.

However, prosecution counsel Arieta Vaganalau maintains that there is a conflict of interest.

Magistrate Prasad says he will not rush into the sentencing and has instructed the two parties to thoroughly prepare and present their submissions within the next seven days before a verdict is determined by the court.

The Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption had initially charged Bansod with one count of abuse of office and one count of general dishonesty causing a loss.

On Monday; FICAC had filed the amended charge after which Bansod pleaded guilty to it.

It is alleged that Bansod provided false confidentiality and conflict of interest declaration for the tender of the design, development and implementation of the Post Fiji Mobile Application in 2022.

The former Post Fiji Chief Executive will be sentenced on Wednesday 7th August.
