Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad has assured Fijians that their voices are being heard and that the concerns they raised during the 2025–2026 National Budget consultations will possibly be reflected in the final document.
Speaking in Lautoka during one of the latest rounds of public engagement, Professor Prasad stresses the government’s commitment to improving service delivery, cutting red tape, and making better use of national resources.
He says these consultations are not just a formality; they help shape the decisions that go into the budget.
Among the top proposals brought forward was the construction of a new airstrip to boost tourism and improve travel access to remote areas.
Participants also raised concerns over rural infrastructure, calling for better access roads and safer walkways, particularly for schoolchildren.
A proposed pedestrian walkway was highlighted as essential for both safety and community recreation.
Professor Prasad says his ministry would seriously consider several of the proposals raised for inclusion in the upcoming budget, as the government looks to balance economic growth with practical community support.
