Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu claims the Coalition Government’s recent cabinet reshuffle and other political developments, has exposed the shortcomings of the current administration.
While announcing plans to establish a new party this morning to contest the 2026 General Election, he said the intentions and loyalties of those in power have been clearly established with the G9 joining the coalition and the Group of 16 plus one remaining as the loyal Opposition and the alternative Government.
He said as members of the FijiFirst Government, the members of the G16 had witnessed expansion of infrastructure and services and improvement in quality of life.
Seruiratu said over the past two years, they had witnessed the Coalition Government at work “with its many shortcomings.”
Seruiratu adds that they have learnt from their performance under the FijiFirst administration and now want to build on those achievements.
He made these comments while announcing the formation of a new party this morning that will contest in the 2026 General Election.
“Fiji needs and deserves a better leadership that delivers on its promises, and that is what we will do. We will be a party bounded by humility, acceptance, and love for one another, within a common interest to build on the foundations laid by past leaders for a safe, secure, prosperous Fiji for all Fijians.”
Seruiratu said the new party would be geared towards delivering equality, democracy, and transparency for all Fijians.
He said they have learnt from the shortcomings of the FijiFirst Party and the current administration and will ensure they deliver the best possible service to the Fijian people if elected into power.
Seruiratu said they would now mobilize resources to get the party registered.
Notable figures in the proposed new party include Jone Usamate, Virendra Lal, Parveen Bala, Sachida Nand and Alvick Maharaj.
