The new e-ticketing machines are being tested on a few buses.
Communication Minister Manoa Kamikamica confirms that Vodafone Fiji is the successful tenderer for the replacement e-ticketing machine.
Kamikamica says the deployment is expected by February next year.
“So that’s very exciting. It’s a brand new system, it’s a lot better than what we currently have and so hopefully we will be able to extend it to not only buses but shipping, even taxis. If that happens it will be a positive development for transportation. “
The current electronic ticketing system was initially introduced in 2017 and used by 57 operators.
It was revealed last year that the system is nearing its operational lifespan.
Vodafone Fiji also confirms the system is currently being tested.
