The Fiji Corrections Service is seeking assistance from development partners to design programs aimed at rehabilitating drug offenders.
This was highlighted by Samisoni Naba, the Director of Training and Rehabilitation at Fiji Corrections Service.
Naba explained that they are working on establishing suitable programs to assist inmates convicted of drug and alcohol-related offenses who enter correctional facilities.
He added that rigorous research is being conducted to ensure the program is appropriate.
“And we are currently conducting research in terms of the suitable programs that we need to offer. But Fiji Correctional Service has in the past conducted programs in our correctional facilities. It was a drug and alcohol abuse program.”
Naba further stated that while they already have a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program in place, their goal is to enhance it and make it more comprehensive.
The FCS is focused on addressing gaps to provide better services to the inmates in their care.
