It is an exciting time for young women and girls who aspire to pursue a rugby career.
Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women’s team manager Selita Koroi says the opportunities are now available for females to turn their passion for rugby into a career, with the franchise and eventually the Fijiana XVs side.
“Right now we have the depth in players that are in the squad right now, there’s 60-odd ladies, young girls that are in so that is a good number but still there are opportunities for others that are interested to play the sport and play professional. I suppose it takes hard work to get in but there is opportunities for you to get into the academy and to work your way into the Drua level.”
Koroi says a 33-member Fijian Drua Women’s squad will be named on Monday to participate in the Super W competition this year.
The Fijian Drua Women have been the reigning champions of the competition for the past two years.
