In a significant stride towards bolstering disaster preparedness, the Ba Province catchment is now equipped with an advanced flood early warning system.
During the handover ceremony, Permanent Secretary Isoa Talemaibua emphasizes the significance of this collaborative effort, highlighting the proactive stance taken to safeguard vulnerable communities.
Talemaibua says the project is set to provide critical benefits to the communities of Ba, Lautoka and Nadi.
He says with the Fiji Meteorological Services forecasting a total of 8-14 cyclones for the 2023-2024 season, this project is crucial in sounding a warning and being better prepared.
The cost of this project is $1m thanks to the Government of Korea.
Plans are to extend this to other flood prone communities.
