Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre Coordinator Shamima Ali has highlighted the persistent denial of discrimination against women and girls.
Ali says these issues have far-reaching consequences, leading to women’s economic vulnerability and depriving them of land ownership and inheritance rights.
She stresses the importance of understanding the intricate dynamics surrounding gender, cautioning against addressing isolated issues without considering the broader context.
“Denial of discrimination against women and girls, denial of education. So then it gives rise to women not being economically viable, land issue, women not allowed to land issue, inheritance, all those it gives you when you keep up the discrimination, the lack of respect comes from it. So you have to understand the dynamics around gender.”
Ali is calling for a collective effort in addressing this complex issue and working towards a more inclusive society.
She is also stressing on the need for a comprehensive understanding of gender dynamics and called for collaborative efforts from all stakeholders to drive progress.
