The Local Government Ministry is currently in Labasa, undertaking consultations on the municipal council elections and the retirement age of municipal council officers.
Assistant Minister, Lenora Qereqeretabua says it is a public consultation, and they will take all the recommendations and suggestions on board.
Qereqeretabua says they are looking forward to constructive criticism from the municipalities and the ratepayers.
She adds that there are a lot of factors that need to be considered before the elections.
“There is a lot to think about. Since 2005, when we last had elections, the boundaries have just exploded. We have informal settlements to think about, and we just have so many things to think about, even the age of who is eligible to vote for the municipal council election.”
Consultation continue in Lautoka tomorrow.
