Hundreds turned up at the Suva Military Cemetery this morning to attend the ANZAC Day Dawn Service.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua laid a wreath each, as did members of the diplomatic corps.

Australia’s Charge d’Affaires Stuart Watts highlighted that Australia pays tribute to its Fijian defence partners, with whom it has special bonds and is honoured and proud to call “Vuvale”.

New Zealand High Commissioner Charlotte Darlow shared similar sentiments, saying being part of the service brought a shared sense of unity, comradeship, and collective security.

She adds that it is important to remember that today’s peace comes from the hard work and sacrifice of previous generations.

Also present at the service were Acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew, Fiji Navy Commander Humphrey Tawake, Returned Soldiers and Ex-Servicemen President Ratu Peni Volavola, and members of the ex-servicemen as well as members of the disciplined forces.

The last post and a minute of silence were also observed at the service.
