Fiji to co-host Pacific Islands Agriculture Ministers meet

A high-level round table meeting between Pacific Island countries and China will provide opportunities of cooperation for these countries in the agriculture sector.

Fiji’s Agriculture Minister Mahendra Reddy and his counterpart form China will be co-hosting this meeting.

During this meeting a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between the two countries as well.

Agriculture Ministers and senior officials from the Governments of Western Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Federated States of Micronesia, Cook Islands, and Niue will also be part of this meeting.

The meeting is an outcome of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Papua New Guinea last year.

The meeting has been organized by South-South Cooperation and is also supported by the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations.

The event will be hosted at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Denarau, Nadi on March 29th.

The theme of the meeting is ‘Seizing the opportunity of jointly contributing to the Belt and Road Initiative, advancing the practical agricultural cooperation between China and Pacific Island States’.
