A new head of the Pacific Delegation for the European Union has been announced.

The current French Ambassador to Fiji Sujiro Seam will take up the new role in September.

The Pacific EU Delegation oversees several states in the region and for Ambassador Seam having served two years in Fiji as France’s top diplomat, his agenda is clear.

“To increase and develop the relationship between the European Union and the countries and territories of the Pacific. We have a lot of common challenges, climate change is certainly number 1 of these challenges, but development is also a very serious challenge in the region. I think the European Union can do a lot to improve the situation overall in the region and that’s going to be my challenge for the next four years.”

Meanwhile, Ambassador Seam says among the highlights of his tenure as the French representative in Fiji is the re-establishment of the visa services locally which will be outsourced.

In the last two years, Fijians wanting to travel to Europe have had to incur the additional cost of travelling to either Vanuatu, New Zealand or Australia for their visa application.

Ambassador Seam also notes the work of the French Embassy in the Education and the Arts and introduction of the French language at Ratu Navula College in Nadi.
